All for one, and one for all

2009-11-24 16:47

The single 1-euro ticket initiative, introduced by the combined transport authorities of Nice in January 2008, saw an overall increase in passengers of 15% over the course of the year - nearly 12 million passengers in all - and led to an additional investment of 5 million euros.  And on the Nice Côte d'Azur networks, the figures are even more astounding: 54 million people were carried on public transport in 2008, an increase of almost 35% on the previous year.

With 600 buses travelling 24 million km per year, it makes sense to invest in new resources and technology.  And now, a revolution is in progress as the buses in and out of Nice will be re-branded in the same colour, and make use of a new universal ticket system.

Early in 2010, a pilot scheme will equip travellers with multi-modal tickets to test how well the new system operates on two routes - route 100 (Nice-Monaco-Menton), and route 217 between Nice and Sophia Antipolis. The trial period will allow unlimited travel on these lines, and later in 2010, it's hoped that an integrated ticketing system will be rolled out for all routes on the Riviera

For the authorities it gives an opportunity to show  travellers the benefits of their  vision of a single transport network.
