The new 10 Commandments

In pursuit of a less dirty Nice, the council have launched a major awareness campaign with displays in shops and on public transport ,and advertisements in newspapers and on the radio. They have also distributed 10,000 copies of the new 'Code de la Rue' to the general public.
With the strapline 'I'm looking out for a cleaner city' this new Highway Code for pedestrians includes the following 'Ten Commandments'
Rule 1 - I shall not throw my cigarette butt onto the street (fine: €35)
Rule 2 - I shall not throw my rubbish out the window of my car or my apartment.
Rule 3 - I shall pick up my 'doggy-dos' (fine: €45 for not doing so)
Rule 4 - In the street, I put my litter in the bins provided
Rule 5 - I shall not drop chewing gum on the street.
Rule 6 - When I park, I shall leave room for roadsweeping between my car and the pavement
Rule 7 - I shall not deposit household appliances such as fridges or furniture in the street (fine: €35)
Rule 8 - I shall leave my household waste out on the correct day and time and return the bins after collection
Rule 9 - I shall sort out all packaging to encourage recycling and to preserve the environment
Rule 10 - I shall put my household waste in a container and not just drop it on the ground.
In return, Nice will implement
- 1000 street ashtrays (to be installed by the end of 2009)
- Beach ashtrays distributed free to smokers in the summer
- More than 3000 waste-paper baskets in the city of Nice.
- Doggy-bags replaced once or twice a day. - 800 disposable bag dispensers in Nice and more than 750,000 bags distributed annually
- 10 Motorcycle poop collectors, 14 sweepers, and 7 vehicles equipped with high-pressure hoses.
- 400 daily street cleaners
- Rubbish collection on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.
and will set the following targets:
- 7.500 tonnes of packaging collected annually.
- 9400 tonnes of glass collected annually.
- 7600 tonnes of paper collected per year.
