Passport to Summer
2010-06-21 16:20
You're aged 13-21, living or going to school in Monaco. So what are you going to be doing this summer? Instead of spending two months watching TV or playing video games, why not take the chance to meet and make new friends, and take part in new activities in a friendlyenvironment?
Pass’Sport, from the department of Education, Youth and Sports, offers all this for a credit-crunch-proof €38 per month or €65 for two months. Registration fees pay for themselves within just a few days.
Among the huge number of activities, the Société Nautique will help you discover rowing and kayaking, while the Yacht Club introduces young sailors to the Laser Pico. The Blue Peter Frolla School organizes internships for five mornings of diving, hiking, and aquatics down the rivers of the Gorges du Loup or Fanghetto and, for fans of winter sports, there’s the possibility of the Jet Roca-ski with the Jet Club; Or how about an afternoon of mountain biking in La Turbie?
More traditional activities are also on offer: dance workshops at the Princess Stephanie Youth Centre, tennis sessions at the Monte Carlo Country Club, combat sports including judo, aikido, fencing at the Stade Louis II, or shooting with the Federation Monegasque de Tir.
Why not take one of the many creative and cultural courses? As well as the classic theatre of Molière and Shakespeare, guitar lessons and cookery workshops, there are dance courses available in salsa, oriental dance, Afro-Latin, hip-hop, and movement to music, as well as creative and cultural workshops in photography and film-making. There’s even a course of musical comedy in English, a perfect way to meet youngsters from other countries!
Those who are interested may register at the National Education’s Information Centre from mid-June onwards, 18 avenue des Castelans, between 10 am. and 6 pm. (tel: +377 98 98 87 63)
