Casino de Monte Carlo to close
2010-04-07 11:08
In a move which is sure to lead to disappointment in some quarters, the historic Casino of Monte Carlo is to be closed for six months immediately after this year's Grand Prix. The 144-year-old grande dame of casinos, designed by Parisian architect Charles Garnier, is in need of substantial refurbishment, and it is anticipated that building work will continue until December 2010.
In the meantime, the numerous facilities currently offered by the casino - including table games - will be relocated to the nearby Sporting d'Hiver complex, according to the Société des Bains de Mer, who own the buildings.

The reconstruction of the 6000m² Casino coincides with other developments from SBM, including the opening of the Buddha Bar restaurant and the creation of a new private club in the East wing of the Casino, in place of the old Cabaret.
