Princess Grace Trail
2011-06-21 14:56
At twenty-five locations throughout the principality, you'll find display boards depicting key events in the life and times of Grace, Princess of Monaco. Together they form an itinerary which introduces the visitor to the country, its traditions and its royal heritage. If you're here for the first time, there's no better way of getting to know the home of the Grimaldis.

Starting at Fontvieille with the nursery founded by Princess Grace in 1977, follow the trail to le Rocher, where the Cathedral was the scene for the Royal Wedding of 1956.
The path then leads down to the harbour and Saint-Devote, patron saint of Monaco, where a traditional boat-burning takes place every year.
Moving on to Monte Carlo, you can read about Princess Grace's love of the arts, with evenings at the Salle Garnier, and the foundation of the Theatre Princess Grace. From here the trail moves towards Larvotto. Of particular interest is the Japanese Garden. Although it was completed only in 1994, the Princess could be said to have inspired the idea by planting two flowering cherries here in 1969.
The final part of the heritage walk takes the visitor away from the sea and back to Fontvieille via the Red Cross Centre, close to the princess's heart, and the Exotic Gardens, before finishing at the Princess Grace Hospital
