San Remo looks to the future

2009-12-14 22:46

For a long time,  the Italian Riviera has played second fiddle to the French.  But now things may be about to change. The capital of the Itlaian Riviera is rivalling towns on the Cote d'Azur in putting together its programme of festivities this year, and one big idea in the pipeline is to set up a conosrtium similar to Monaco's SBM to co-ordinate future ventures.

'Sanremo Eventi' will gather together, under one umbrella organization, all the  Casino and other events which bring value to the touristic experience of the city.

Signor Donato Di Ponziano will be in charge not only of promotion and marketing but also all of the sports centres, the racetrack, golf course and even pigeon-shooting faciltiies. The organization, which has been approved by the Italian Minister for Economic Development, Claudio Scajola, hopes that centralized resources, flexibility and efficency will give a boost to tourism - such efficiency is crucial even if in the end it means fewer events, say the authorities.

Co-ordinating events so that there are fewer clashes while ensuring there is always something of interest going on every day and evening are of course absolute necessities in a job of this kind, and Di Ponziano is considered the right man for the challenge.

Of course, here at CityOut we look forward to publishing details of events promoted by Sanremo Eventi in 2010!
