Rising spectacularly out of the ocean itself, this world-famous museum was founded by HSH Prince Albert I, who was not only an expert sailor but also a well-known explorer and oceanographer. For many years under the curatorship of Jacques Cousteau, the museum houses astonishing collections of marine animals, with an aquarium holding over 4000 species of fish living in simulated Mediterranean and tropical ecosystems.
Following HSH Prince Albert II’s recent visit to the polar regions in the tracks of his great-great grandfather, there is also a fascinating exhibit on the theme of the ice-caps.
