Roll up! roll up! for the 36th International Circus Festival of Monte Carlo. From 19th to 29th January 2012, circus-lovers will be gathering together in the Principality to celebrate one of the most dynamic programmes of recent years, including an unrivalled programme of awe-inspiring new routines.
Two outstanding acts from France are preparing to re-write the definition of daredevilry. Infernal Varanne is an astonishing motorcycle act featuring no fewer than six world-record-breaking performers simultaneously chasing around the interior of a 3.5-metre metal globe. Meanwhile the Pilar Duo provide similar thrills on roller skates, with an unforgettable and breathtaking elevated dance routine.
The Strong Men of Mongolia will perform a juggling act using metal balls, each weighing over 20 kilos, accompanied by a team of floor acrobats; and last but not least, there will also be the traditional opportunity to see some of the world's finest and most majestic animals.
Goncharov, the Ukrainian lion-tamer who has fought consistently to improve the living conditions of circus animals, will be presenting his remarkable troupe of ten lions - including eight males - in a skilfully choreographed programme. And in a new twist on the tradition, the Probst, from Germany, perform a country-style act featuring farm animals: donkeys, goats, pigs and cockerels will be having a field day in Fontvieille’s famous ring. A second act will feature 21 ponies, a world first: never before have so many of these famously untameable creatures appeared together in a circus ring.
Even more to come! Keep checking this page for updates to the programme in the next few weeks!
