As her extensive European summer tour comes to a close, singer
Joan Baez will be performing live on 4 October at Monaco's Grimaldi Forum.
The evergreen folk musician, whose association with
Bob Dylan is the stuff of legend, made her name as a protest singer in the sixties. A supporter of the cause of freedom from Vietnam to South Africa to the ex-Soviet Union, she has been present at many of the defining moments of twentieth century history, performing the civil rights anthem 'We Shall Overcome' in support of iconic figures including
Martin Luther King,
Nelson Mandela and
Vaclav Havel, who praised Baez's commitment to the Velvet Revolution which brought down communism in Czechoslovakia.
Fifty years on, and with thirty albums to her name, Baez continues to inspire generations of music lovers and political activists alike. Her most recent album,
'Day After Tomorrow' was produced in collaboration with Steve Earle.
As a token of the esteem in which she is held in the music world and that of international politics, Joan Baez received two significant honours earlier this year. One was her induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame (she has also received a total of six Grammy awards throughout her career).

The other was the presentation of the inaugural 'Amnesty International Joan Baez Award for Outstanding and Inspirational Service in the Global Fight for Human Rights'. The Amnesty committee cited her 'historic, ground-breaking and courageous human rights work with
Amnesty International and beyond, and the inspiration she has given activists around the world'.
Now, visitors and residents of Monaco alike will be able to hear this extraordinary performer in concert for one night only at one of the Riviera's most important concert halls, the stunning Grimaldi Forum on Monaco's seafront.
