Grace Kelly honoured in Los Angeles

2011-06-21 14:55

She is already honoured as a film star on Hollywood Boulevard's 'Walk of Fame', but now Grace Kelly has been awarded the posthumous honour of a place on Los Angeles's 'Walk of Style'.   Running the length of glitzy Rodeo Drive - the strip immortalized in 'Pretty Woman' -the Walk of Style rewards those who have made a particular and lasting contribution to the worlds of fashion and haute couture.

The first recipients of the award in 2003 included fashion designers Armani and Versace; and it is no coincidence that Cartier, jewellers to the Grimaldis since 1920, was honoured on the same day. Their two names now appear on permanent plaques embedded in the pavement of Rodeo Drive itself. Cartier, who created the princess's extraordinary 10-carat diamond engagement ring, was the first jewellery company to receive the honour.

Princess Grace's son, H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, accepted the award at a special ceremony in Los Angeles on Thursday 22 October. The event benefitted the Princess Grace Foundation in the USA (who held their fundraising gala in New York the previous day) as well as the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.
