4th Monte Carlo Jazz Festival
2009-09-15 09:54
Last year's spectacular lineup included Franck Mead's funk band, French jazz guitarist Thomas Dutronc, Danish vocalist Malene Mortensen, and legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock. If that was anything to go by, then the fourth international jazz festival, which runs in the third week of November at Casino resorts throughout the principality, should be exceptional.
The star attraction this year will be Marcus Miller, who played with Miles Davis in the last nine years of the trumpeter's illustrious career. Miller is uniquely qualified to perform a tribute concert to his world-famous muse. The jazz/hip-hop crossover legend, renowned for both his slap-bass pyrotechnics and lyrical bass clarinet, has earned a broad following in both musical camps.
Along with trumpeter Christian Scott, Miller reinterpets Miles's late electronic style in what promises to be a rousing finale to this year's festival.
