The Cannes Film Festival is not the only celebration of excellence in the arts to be taking place on the Riviera this May. For the sixth successive year, Monaco is hosting a competition of World Cinema to raise money for charitable causes, and this year's lineup is every bit as spectacular as that taking place further along the coast.
The 6th
Monaco Charity Film Festival covers a vast range of
genres and cultures, with over fifty films from Europe, Africa and Asia as well as the
USA, and a large representation of independently-financed and student productions. There is an unashamed emphasis on documentary and political drama, with moving realizations of the suffering of those caught up in war. On Sunday, Dr. Jeff Hammoudeh from the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital, will give a special presentation about the newly-established
Children of War Foundation followed by a screening of the ABC Specia 'Hashim’s Story'.
The Festival screens about four films a day over the course of a week,
after which a specially-selected jury, headed by
Russian film actor and and
Oleg Vidov (below) will choose the best film, best
director, best
scriptwriter and the best actor awards for presentation at a fundraising
Gala Dinner and spectacle on the final day. It's not only a great opportunity to see the latest developments in World Cinema, but also to assist in rebuilding lives.

About the Festival
The Monaco Charity Film Festival is a yearly event held in
Monaco for the benefit of poor children around the world. Once more this year funds will be raised
for the Virlanie Foundation in the Philippines, the largest private
non-sectarian childcare institution in Manila. It operates twelve
residential homes providing shelter,
food and education to over 1,000 disadvantaged children.
The Festival also helps new and developing film-makers find financing and distribution for their work.
