In these days of health-conscious dining, it’s clear that the traditional art of Japanese cuisine still heads the field, combining nutritional goodness with gourmet style. The Maya Bay’s Japanese restaurant advertises its dishes as the ‘flagship cuisine of the 21 century', and with good reason: sushi, sashimi, maki and other specialties are prepared with a real flair and love of tradition by Japanese chef Ryuji Kakizaki.

As anyone who has studied oriental philosophy and religion will tell you, the atmosphere and ambience are crucial to the experience of wellbeing. Here the terrace-patio is designed to reflect the look and serene tranquility of a Japanese temple.

Rather like Princess Grace’s Japanese Gardens on the way to Larvotto, the restaurant’s Zen garden is a place of entire peace amid the hustle and bustle of city life. Its traditional features - waterfall and wall of water, bonsai, bamboo, and decore, all reflect the fact that oriental inspiration goes much further than simply what’s on your plate.
