Ski-Guide 2: Auron
2010-01-12 16:32
Continuing our series on winter sports, Marie Douglas travels to Auron - Alpes Maritimes, France
Located at the doors of the Mercantour National Park, Auron offers a great skiing experience in a protected environment only an hour and half away from the Riviera.
Perfectly situated at 1600m, Auron was created back in 1937, to cater for the newly-created paid vacations in France. Over the last 70 years, Auron has grown organically and offers modernity and comfort while conserving a traditional feel.
Skiers of all ages can enjoy great snow and sun in this family ski resort with over 135 km of ski pistes. 298 snow cannons are also available to generate perfect white snow, while the beautiful slopes 800m above the station are divided in 42 pistes and an adrenalin-fuelled snowpark.

Auron also offers a great choice of cultural activities, including a visit to the historic St Erige Chapel, the traditional house of Mercantour, and a cinema. And for those interested in the natural world, the national park itself is an important wildlife reserve.
The Office of Tourism of Auron offers excellent ski packages starting at 160 Euros per person for a two nights stay (half board) and 3-day pass for Auron ski paradise and its 21 ski lifts (not available on Fridays and Saturdays, and during school holidays).
To find out more about Auron, visit their website or contact the office of tourism at +33 4 93 23 02 66.
