After last week's victory over Toulouse, the Monegasquens must have gone into today's match against Nancy with great expectations. But those hopes were to be cruelly dashed by four goals from Nancy, one of them the result of a penalty
At the end of a ragged ninety minutes, the third goalscorer, 25-year-old Cameroon striker Alo'o Efoulou, came back for one more to rub salt into an already gaping wound.
A frantic last two minutes saw cracking shots at goal in rapid succession from Lola, Pino and Nenê each trying to reduce the damage in mere seconds, but Nancy's keeper, who had had nothing to do for ninety minutes, was just too good.
And a sad postscript is that Monaco's top-flight winger Park Chu-Young was badly injured in the game and may take some time to recover. More soon.
