XXVIIth Primo Cup - Credit Suisse Trophy

2011-02-04 12:07

What: Primo Cup -  Credit Suisse Trophy
Where: Port Hercule, Monaco
When: 3-6 February, 10-13 February 2011

If you're in Monaco this weekend or next, come down to Port Hercule to see some of the finest yacht racing in the world

For the past 25 years, the international elite of monotype yachting have gathered in early February off the coast of Monaco for the Primo Cup-Credit Suisse Trophy, the event which signals the start of the European regatta season. Held under the patronage and presidency of HSH Prince Albert II, is the first monotype racing event of the year and one of the most important winter events in the European yachting world.

This year more than 250 individual boats are expected, divided into 12 monotype classes over the two weekends, with over 1000 participants, including the venerable Dragon class, which three years ago celebrated the eightieth anniversary of its first build in 1928.

Also appearing once more will be the multicoloured Longtze Premiers and the Melges 20, which was awarded Boat of the Year in 2009

Organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco, the 27th annual competition takes place on two successive weeks,  from Thursday 3 to Sunday 6 February and from Thursday 10 to Sunday 13 February. Just as it has for the last 25 years, the Primo Cup gathers together the European yachting elite, with 1000 crew representing some fifteen individual nationalities.

The competition comprises twelve rounds in all over the two weekends,  with a minimum of seven competitors per category. They are: 3-6 Feb: J/80, Dragon, Esse 850, Surprise, J/24, Melges 20
10-13 Feb: X35, Platu 25, Longtze, Farr 30, Melges 32, Smeralda 888

The first three crews in each series wil be awarded with clothing from the Slam Advanced Technology Sportswear line. A Hublot chronograph will go to the owner of the fastest participating yacht on each of two weekends. And an ingot of gold, estimated in November 2010 at €3250 will be donated by Credit Suisse (Monaco) during the traditional lottery.
