2010-10-19 16:49

What: Grand Ateliers de France 'Hors les Murs'
Where: Port Palace Hotel
When: 20-24 October 2010, 11am-7pm

The Grand Ateliers de France is a federation of companies creating high-end traditional luxury goods for a wide range of consumers, from fashion houses and heritage organizations to private individuals and collectors. Now, twenty-seven of these great names are 'On Tour' (Hors le Murs) to Monaco. For five days from 20-24 October, Monaco's Port Palace Hotel will be hosting a grand exhibition of their work. We look at some of the exceptional products that will be on show

Mary Beyer gloves

Recently Mary Beyer took over Lavabre Cadet, the famous manufacturer based in Millau, the mediaeval home of glove-making. Her boutiques specialize in some of the most beautiful and colourful gloves available for men and women, using choice leathers and a range of other materials for cuffs and other exquisite details. There's scarcely a top fashion house that hasn't employed Beyer's designs in recent years - she provided all the handwear for Yves St Laurent's final show in 2002. Now's your chance to see some of the exceptional work from her inspiring collection

Gilles Chabrier - engraved glass

The fine and delicate processes employed by Chabrier bring to life glass of a variety of depths and transparencies, as with this piece, the silver sorcerer's mirror. The patterns, which may equally be engraved on walls, screens, tables or other furniture, reflect and radiate the light in surprising and beautiful ways. The technique is also used with blocks of glass to produce sculptures where the light seems to inhabit the soul of the object.

Michel Heurtault -parasols

Michel Heurtault designs and creates handmade parasols and umbrellas in classical to contemporary styling, using  traditional methods and a range of materials such as wood, iron, silk, cotton, linen… Michel Heurtault is an expert in historic parasols, and will restore or recreate originals from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Like all the exibitors at the show, he has worked for the very greatest names in haute couture, including John Galliano, Hermes and Givenchy

Nicolas Marischael: gold and silver-ware

The house of Marischael - based in the Marais district of Paris - is one of the world's top silversmiths, recognized for its particular expertise in tableware, but also in silver and gold jewellery. This family business has been here for centuries, and has acquired an experience that few other artisans possess: an intimate knowledge of fine metalwork from the 18th century onwards. Specialized understanding of this ancient art allows them to continue to produce the world's most luxurious contemporary designs, as well as undertaking repairs of original work in silver and gold.
