From Miami to Moscow and from Zurich to Venice, Oksana Mas is an artist of international renown. Now she brings her extraordinary and unique vision to Monaco
Ukrainian artist
Oksana Mas is once more exhibiting her work at Monaco's
Opera Gallery this month. For those unfmailiar with her work, Mas, born in Odessa in 1969, has made her life's work the fusion of Ukrainian traditions of folk painting with her own personal, and very contemporary, style.
Fascinated by both geometrical perfection and the rich palette of religious iconography, her most notable works combine the two, constructing works which mimic traditional church paintings in mosaics constructed entrely from hand-painted eggs, transforming simple everyday objects into quite exceptional and highly unusual works of art. She has no fear of scale: her latest project is a vast reproduction of the Jan van Eyck altarpiece in Ghent - constructed from over three million hand-painted eggs - which will represent Ukraine at this year's Venice Biennale this year from now till November.

At the other end of the scale, it is the smooth curved surfaces of
contemporary luxury items that attract her. Mas's vast hemispherical
sculptures, some again made from eggs but others mimicking smooth
metallic surfaces, are only one of her trademarks: she has also turned her attention to the world of glamour, with such extraordinary pieces as the engine of a luxury sedan dressed in leather stitched with gold buttons (below), and her 'Red Wheel',
which has also previously been on display at Opera Gallery.

Oksana Mas has exhibited internationally from Tokyo to Geneva, and in Miami as well as Moscow, and her works are to be found in numerous collections both private and public. The current exhibition promises to be equally as successful as her recent show in Zurich and will undoubtedly attract investors and collectors as well as lovers of contemporary art.
