In common with many Provençal towns and villages, the petite hamlet of Lucéram near Nice is renowned for its traditional manger scenes which fill the streets, doorways, cellars, porches, and even (in baked form) the boulangeries of this delightful mediaeval jewel during the advent and Christmas period.
Visitors to the hillside village are invited to take a tour among some 400 of these exquisitely-fashioned miniature crib scenes in the so-called 'circuit des crèches'.
Situated on the hinterland of Nice, at the source of the river Paillons, the village is also well-known for its neighbouring ski resort of Peïra Cava, the nearest to Monaco.
As well as enjoying a day out on the piste, or absorbing the festive atmosphere of the countless manger scenes, you may want to sample the traditional game menu available at the
Bocca Fina bar and restaurant, where - if you're lucky - you may even catch a glimpse of the town's mayor, or the village priest with his portable nativity scene in the boot of his car!
