Madagascar at the Monaco International Fair
2010-10-09 11:23
What: 22nd International Fair of Monaco
Where: Espace Fontvieille
When: 10am-7pm, daily from 9 to 17 October 2010

From October 9 to 17, the International Fair of Monaco invites visitors to discover the exotic land of Madagascar. Surrounded by the Indian Ocean, Madagascar, off the African coast, is one of the largest islands in the world - practically a continent in itself - whose unique landscape is home to a wealth of flora and fauna and a fascinating mosaic of peoples.
Often referred to as 'The Red Island' owing to the distinctive colour of its soil, this 'eighth continent' is an extraordinary blend of old forests, mountain ridges, rice fields and harbours, and has a rich history of crafts, folklore and traditions, all of which will be presented at this week's fair in displays specifically dedicated to the country.

Since the seventh century, the island has been an important trading post between the two mighty continents of Asia and Africa, and that tradition of merchandising - and cuisine -has now come to Monaco. Guests will be introduced not only to the wide range of Malagasy products but also the country's food, music and culture. Over nine days, more than 60,000 visitors will be free to sample the style and heritage of Madagascar, and to browse and buy from a wide spectrum of innovations covering everything from electronics to health and beauty, from furnishings to cars and tourism. }
Malagasy folk have a long tradition of welcoming guests (vahiny), so come along to the Big Top in Fontvieille at any time this week and share some of the magic of their country!
