The most exclusive club in the world? (1)

2010-11-05 16:09

Unsurprisingly, Monaco’s unique attractions continue to draw increasing numbers of foreign travellers, especially those from wealthy Middle Eastern cities such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. In fact journeys from the United Arab Emirates saw a rise of 45% in the last year, according to a recent report. Since this January, Emirates Airlines have increased their flight frequency to Nice (just six minutes from Monaco by helicopter) from five per week to one a day.

You don’t have to look far for an explanation. Put simply, this tiny state has everything – a passion for the arts, culture, outstanding cuisine, spa therapies and high-end leisure pursuits such as the Monaco Grand Prix, casino gaming, luxury yachting and exciting nightlife. Add to that the great climate and its proximity to France’s charming mediaeval hilltop villages and markets, and you have a holiday destination – and potential market – par excellence.

Michel Bouquier, President of the Monaco Tourism Authority was at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai last week to launch the new Monaco Private Label concept, the first time this exclusive programme has come to the Middle East.

Monaco Private Label, launched last year, is close to being – if it isn't already - the most exclusive club in the world.  Membership is by invitation only, must come with the recommendation of consulates or embassies, and is only extended to those members of society whose wealth is a sign of genuine influence.

In return, members enjoy privileges which their vast wealth alone could not guarantee: private tours of the cellars of the Hôtel de Paris, private receptions in elegant Monaco apartments, exclusive private service from couturiers and Michelin-starred restauarateurs such as Joel Robuchon, and private boxes at the Monte Carlo Opera and Monaco Grand Prix. Throw into the mix bespoke private shopping tours, a range of luxury activities, and the personal attention of Monaco government and tourism officials during the visit, and you start to get the picture.

Recently, 30 connoisseurs of luxury in Singapore were given privileged access to the Monaco Priiavte Label scheme, and a further 30 have now been added from the Middle East, bringing the total number of members to 300 from all across the world.
