Q: What three traits define you?
Driven, independent, sincere
Q: Who are your heroes?
First of all my father. He is the hidden strength behind my success and we are very alike; his charisma was intoxicating and I am proud to continue his legacy in life and business. My heroes are generous people who have managed to succeed in life and business by fighting for what they believe in and sacrificing themselves for success and the good of others. I admire leaders and sincere people who fly true like an arrow and I particularly enjoy the story of Genghis Khan, who was a ruthless tyrant but an amazing leader of men and built one of the largest empires in the history of mankind, from absolutely nothing. The rise and fall of Julius Caesar and the triumphs of Napoleon are also of interest to me and they are emphatic heroes of their era.
Q: What has been the highlight of your career so far?
My recent Luxury Lifestyle Gala in Monaco last March 2017 was an exceptional moment for me, where we partnered with the Prince Albert Foundation and the Fairmont Monte Carlo with thirty-five other supporting companies. We managed to host 380 attendees in our third year of this event and it was hard work, but highly gratifying and more importantly, everyone who attended had a marvellous and memorable time.
Q: What has been the greatest challenge of your career so far?
The greatest challenge of my career was building my business from scratch in Berlin 15 years ago. I was a single father bringing up my four-year old son Jackson alone and the work environment in Berlin is tough, it’s not an easy place to start-up. I did not speak German and I had decided to import New World wines, which are not always appreciated by old fashioned European restaurateurs. Slogging away at that was tough and educational for the first five years but each small success inspired me to keep going. I was always driven to be better and I developed the distribution and event business into seven countries and more recently entered the Monaco market, where we are still building and striving to be better.
Q: Where is your favourite place to eat or drink in Monaco?
I have to be careful with this answer as we have numerous restaurants that we service in Monaco however I enjoy Maya Bay for fresh seafood in a relaxing atmosphere. For a glass/bottle of wine, the Wine Palace is an excellent venue. Marcel Ravin at Blue Bay is a good friend, a great person and an amazing culinary creator.
Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t doing this?
I trained and worked as Chef in Asia for twelve years and so I might still be in Asia working as a restaurateur if I had not taken the step to move back to Europe and develop in the wine industry and open my own business.
Q: How do you define success?
For me, success is a sensation, an inner-feeling of satisfaction, when you say to yourself, “Wow, I did it”. It is the moment you realize that your hard work has paid-off. On a business basis, it is when can stand proudly on your own two feet, answering to nobody; knowing that what you have achieved has had a positive impact on the lives of others while providing a good quality of life for yourself and your family.

Advanced Selling Strategies by Brian Tracy. This book changed my life
Q: Tell us something that might surprise us about you.
In 1993, I ran completely out of money travelling in Asia. I lived with the Ifugao tribe in a mud-hut in the rice paddies of Batad (Northern Philippines) for three months waiting for my flight out to get work in Hong Kong. There was no electricity, no connecting roads and the rent was €1 per month for my hut on stilts. I cooked on a open-fire every day, lived like a local as I just had the money in my pocket to get to the airport. It was the most natural living I have ever experienced. You have to go through those soul-searching moments to build hunger and to be able to respect success properly when you eventually achieve it. When I arrived in Hong Kong, my career began.
Q: What do you love about Monaco?
There is a certain charm about Monaco and I admire the service provided by the hotels and the restaurants; generally it is exceptional from the valets to the restaurants – there is an air of elegance, which is apparent from the general contentment of the residents; and I especially enjoy Monaco when it is quiet out of season.
Q: If you could have one wish, what would it be?
My one wish would be that my son achieves success in his life.
