Family activities for younger and older children

In the latest part of our guide for things to do for families with children, we look at two popular venues close to Monaco:  Koaland in Menton, just half an hour from Monaco by car or train; and Vesubia Mountain Park, an hour and a half by car via Nice. If you’re planning something for the weekend or the holidays, both of these are fun activities to build into your programme.

Koaland, Menton

Koaland is a small amusement park (parc de loisirs) suitable for children of up to 10 years of age, with swings, water slides, fairground rides, and carousels. It’s only a few minutes by foot from the beach, so you can easily combine a visit to both.  For budding golfers, there’s a mini-golf course at an additional fee.  For all of the other activities, jetons are available from €2 each, to  €30 for a pack of 35 tokens. If your child’s birthday is coming up, Koaland offers an excellent birthday party service.

Out of interest, the amusement park is built on land that has been owned by the Grimaldi family of Monaco since the 17th century. Its beautiful overshadowing trees remind us that the first pleasure gardens in Menton were created on this very spot.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: The proprietors of Koaland have kindly provided the information that wearing face-masks is no longer obligatory, since the park is in the open air; hand sanitizer is available at various points throughout the park.

Vesubia Mountain Park

Getting hot in Monaco? Then take a trip to the mountains to cool off.  Vesubia Mountain Park is an indoor attraction in the French village of Saint-Martin-Vesubie, about an hour and a half”s drive from Monaco, with the fastest route via Nice.  It’s one attraction that you don’t want to miss, especially if you’re looking for something for families with children from 6 years and upwards.

The Park includes multiple ‘outdoor’ activities: swimming, caving, canyoning, and climbing.  There are difficulty levels to challenge even the most independent of children and push them to new limits. And of course all the expected supervision and safety equipment is provided. As you can see in the video below, the standard of facilities is very high.

While your children spend their energy on these activities, why not relax in the leisure pool with massage jets? A free Wi-Fi zone, toilets, snack bars, and a gym are some of the additional features offered here at the park. You can spend a whole day at Vesubia along with your children and keep them occupied  – it’s a perfect antidote to holiday boredom.
