This week we see the return of one of Monte-Carlo’s most cherished events, which this time promises to be on a grander scale than ever before.
From 19-29th January 2017, the Chapiteau de Fontvieille will play host to the 41st Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival, with H.S.H. Princess Stephanie and her organising committee celebrating the occasion by introducing new innovations to the proceedings. She is actively involved in planning the circus-themed events that occur during the Festival and does not miss a rehearsal. Often joined by H.S.H. Prince Albert and her children, H.S.H. Princess Stéphanie enjoys each and every performance, which is the culmination of the previous year’s work.
This year, more than 120 artists from 16 countries will perform under the Fontvieille Big Top. The stars of the Russian circus, the Zapashny Brothers will perform their mixed tiger – lion act for the first time in Europe. Erwin Frankello presents great skills of his African elephants and sea lions, both his friends and partners. The 41st Festival will feature the most spectacular and thrilling acts as artists on high wire, a double wheel act from the Gerling Troupe and much more attractions from all over the world… the audience can enjoy again all the magic and wonders of the circus.
An international jury under the presidency of HSH Princess Stephanie will honour the best acts of the Festival with the famous Golden, Silver and Bronze Clowns awards.
As well as a star-studded line-up, the 41st anniversary show boasts an extended arena, with the show set to spill out into the town itself as a parade of artists will make the trip from Fontvieille up to the Place du Palais for a special free afternoon show on Saturday 21st January.
Ticket costs vary depending on which show you wish to see, but prices start from as little as 10 euros for children.
If that’s not enough to satisfy your entertainment cravings, the festival will once again be followed by its sister show, the New Generation; a circus competition for young artists that will be held from 4th and 5th February.
International acts including acrobats, clowns and animals will all compete for the Gold Junior, Silver Junior and Bronze Junior awards, with the young jury set to be presided over by H.S.H Princess Stephanie’s daughter, Pauline.
